Horseback Hunting

An absolutely Unique Experience!

Hunting on Horseback in Africa!

"a man and his horse is like a man and his dog, an unspoken but immensely felt connection of love and respect"

For a truly unique hunting experience we invite able riders and horsemen to come and hunt on horseback with CT Safaris

Over and above the very unique experience of hunting Africa on horseback, horseback hunting gives the hunter a number of advantages such as:

  • Areas that are inaccessible by modern vehicle can be accessed on horseback. This allows us to hunt every square mile of the mountains here on Sabrisa and our neighboring concessions.
  • Because our horses live outside and roam our property freely day and night, wild game are used to the horses and our horses to them so neither are disturbed by each other.
  • This allows hunters on horseback to get much closer to game animals than what would normally be possible on foot or by vehicle.

We don't shoot from horseback. The horses are only used to get around with more ease inside the hunting area, access more areas and to locate game. Once our quarry is spotted, we dismount for the stalk.

We currently have four horses available for our horseback hunting adventures - Joco and Jasmine who are both Boerperds, Zhough - an Anglo Arab and Putu - whose ancestory is unknown.

The Boerperd is a modern breed of horse - a recreation of the so-called "Cape Horse" - which is now extinct. The origins of the Cape Horse go back to horses imported from Java in 1653 which later were cross-bred with Thoroughbreds. Interestingly enough, the first horses that were imported into Australia were of this breed. The Anglo-Arab breed in turn stems from cross-breeding Arabian horses with Thoroughbreds - therefore the prefix: "Anglo".

Regardless of the breed, all our horses are are are sure-footed, well trained, of good temperament and provides another unique way to experience Africa with a unique African safari company.
