CT Safaris is a small, family-owned hunting outfit that has been in operation for the last 20 years. We focus on exclusive, high quality safari experiences as opposed to filling camps at all cost and high-volume hunting. This concept doesn’t only give our clients the best possible chance to bag high quality trophies, but also the opportunity to experience an authentic African hunt in a private and exclusive environment as opposed to be “just another number” amongst a large group of hunters. Whether our clients are here to shoot a Buffalo or Warthog, they’ll get the same service and attention. The whole safari is about THEM.
Because we only host one hunting party at a time, our clients will never be surrounded by strangers in camp. Our clients have exclusive access to our vast hunting areas encompassing more than 60,000 acres, the entire time they’re with us.
Our base camp is only 20 minutes from the nearest town of Lephalale where we have access to advanced modern healthcare facilities so in the unlikely event of you getting hurt or sick during your safari, excellent medical care is just around the corner. We are in a malaria free part of South Africa and at our own camp we can host up to four guests (sharing) in two comfortable, air-conditioned chalets. Our accommodations were especially designed to give visitors a true African feel and have all the amenities to make your stay more comfortable than what you could ever imagine. Scrumptious meals are served around the fire pit, at the main house or in the garden – depending on what the weather allows. Larger groups are hosted in the beautiful Grootvley Lodge where we can host up to 12 guests (sharing).
The Team:
Chris Troskie – "The Boss"
Chris Troskie has been in the business of professional hunting since 1997. But his love for the bush has been nurtured since his childhood when he wandered around his family farm with his .22, imagining himself as the big game hunter he was to become!
“I developed my love for hunting as a young boy and I have fond memories of walking through the bush, hunting elephant, lion and buffalo in my imagination – the way my forefathers must have done in years gone by.”
Chris is passionate about hunting and guides most of his clients himself. He qualified as Professional Hunter in 1997 and then successfully completed an advanced Game Ranger’s course to enhance his training. He spent three years learning about wildlife and specifically dangerous game such as Elephant, Rhino and Lion in Greater Kruger National Park where he guided photographic safari clients on walking safaris amongst the Big 5. This experience, in addition to hunting all the Big 5, enabled him to get his dangerous game rating as Professional Hunter and he has been holding an unrestricted PH license for the last 23 years.
“We are proponents of ethical hunting in the spirit of fair chase and our hunting areas are meticulously managed, resulting in sustainable populations of wild game in their natural habitat and above average trophy quality. We don’t hunt any small game-fenced areas. Our hunting areas at our base camp alone comprise of more than 60,000 acres of prime hunting land and we have access to hundreds of thousands more acres throughout the rest of Southern Africa.”
Elegant Sabina
Delightful and charming Sabina is as passionate about cooking as Chris is about hunting and is the second half of our management team. Born in Germany, she developed her love for Africa when she spent 2 years in a hunting camp in Tanzania. Being German of origin, she is a perfectionist – and this quality of hers becomes evident in everything you’ll see in camp – from the décor to the food to general tidiness. And having traveled the World extensively, she has a wide general knowledge – which makes conversations around the fire at night entertaining, insightful and very enjoyable.
Eagle Eye Sammy
Sammy Mokgalaka grew up in a rural settlement outside the town of Phalaborwa next to Kruger National Park where he honed his tracking skills as a young boy, herding his father’s cattle. Sammy always has a smile on his face and no job is too hard or complicated for him to do. He can pick out a track in the most difficult terrain and stick to that track until the quarry is located. Sammy never gives up and he will find you your game – no matter what.
Fearless Josias
Josias Monyeki does not only have a great eye for finding game in the thick Bushveld, he has fantastic tracking skills and has nerves of steel. While some trackers are the first to run when things get hot, he is the guy Chris trusts to hold onto his back-up rifle while he is guiding clients on dangerous game hunts and is never more than an arm-length away.
Smiling Kate
Kate Koadi is the lady with the big smile, responsible for the pristine condition you’ll find your room in every day. The freshly pressed clothes on your bed at the end of each day is also thanks to her. She forms an integral part of our operation.
"Tall Man" Lloyd
Lloyd Malatji has the responsibility of the general upkeep of our facilities and garden. In addition to this, the wood that we burn at the campfire every night was cut by him and he also assists with skinning the animals that were harvested during the day.
DT the Terrier
DT is our chief tracking dog and he helps us to find game after they’ve been shot at. How DT got his name is an interesting story which we’d love to share with you around the campfire while you’re here.
Resi the Pointer
Resi the German Shorthaired Pointer is the latest addition to our hunting operation and currently still under training. Resi was less than a year old when she found her first wounded animal – a Waterbuck – and just over a year old when she bravely assisted DT in baying an angry wounded Buffalo bull so that we could come in and finish off things. We have high hopes for her to follow in DT’s footsteps.
At CT Safaris you will be assisted by a team of Professional Hunters, Trackers and Skinners, who are highly skilled and have years of experience in hunting Africa’s big game – whether with rifle or handgun, bow or crossbow.
These professionals know their hunting areas intimately and are able to adapt to your personal needs and abilities. So whether you’re a novice or an experienced hunter, able-bodied and fit or face a physical challenge or disability, your hunt will be tailor-made for you! Don’t be surprised if you find yourself returning again and again…
South Africa has nine provinces of which Limpopo Province draws around 46% of the international hunters that visit this country annually. This province’s popularity as a hunting destination is attributable to the variety of available African Game species and the quality of the hunting experiences provided here. This is part of the reason why CT Safaris is based here in the Northern part of the country. In addition, CT Safaris also hunts throughout the rest of South Africa including the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, Mpumalanga and Kwa-Zulu Natal Provinces.
CT Safaris also offers bespoke tours of South Africa and neighboring countries. Whether you want to see Victoria Falls, the Namibian dunes, the Okavango Delta or the Winelands of the Cape Province, there’s nobody better than Chris and his team to create an adventurous experience that is tailor-made just for YOU!
There's no substitute for experience!
