Loyal Bowhunting clientele
Over the years we have built up a loyal bowhunting clientele and with good reason. Not only do our bowhunting clients enjoy our private and personalized safaris, they achieve great success during their hunts with us!
At CT Safaris you will not merely be dropped off in a blind and left on your own to hunt (a practice commonly followed by bowhunting Outfitters in South Africa), you will be accompanied by an experienced guide to assist you with gender identification, trophy evaluation and shooting angles. This is an important fact to consider - especially for first-time or less-experienced hunters in Africa. Some African animals can be hard to judge as in some species both males and females carry horns. African animals' kill zones are slightly different to North American and European game so having a guide with you can be greatly beneficial to you as hunter.
Information about Bowhunting in South Africa
Bowhunting in Africa is a unique and special experience. More than 40 different species of game can be hunted with bow and arrow or crossbow and bolt in South Africa and the season is open for bow hunting year-round so you will get ample shot opportunities at a wide variety of animals and even if the animals you see while hunting are not on your list, this is still a great opportunity to observe them up close.
Most bowhunting in South Africa is done from hides at waterholes as this is typically the most successful way of getting shooting opportunities. Shooting distances from hides vary between 10 and 40 yards.
Success can also be had by stalking certain species with archery hunting gear although most African animals are not easy to approach on foot. If your preferred way of bowhunting is stalking, be prepared for shooting opportunities of 40 yards plus.
Best time of year to bow hunt in South Africa:
Earlier in the season (April thru July when there are more leaves on the cover is better suited for those who prefer a stalking bow hunt. The denser foliage makes it a little easier to conceal yourself and there are fewer dry leaves on the ground. Bring a pair of soft-soled hunting boots with that you can walk quietly in and camouflage clothing that blends in with the bush around you.
Later in the year (August thru October has advantages when bow hunting from hides as animals tend to visit waterholes more regularly. Bring dark-colored, quiet clothing and even a face mask with you if you plan on hunting from hides.
Bowhunting Equipment and traveling with it:
A 40 - 60lbs bow will work fine for all thin-skinned game up to the size of Eland. A bow with a minimum draw weight of 80lbs is needed for Cape Buffalo.
Traveling to South Africa with bowhunting equipment is not complicated as no special permits or paperwork is required to take your equipment out of your country or bringing it into South Africa. Just be sure to mark your bow case as "Archery Equipment only" when traveling internationally.
Bring a soft case for your bow with to make it easier for you when traveling between hunting concessions.
Bowhunting Areas:
We have access to several exclusive bowhunting areas around South Africa with strategically placed permanent and temporary hides and the areas we hunt have healthy self sustainable populations of game. We do not partake in any so-called "put and take" hunting.
