My wife and I just spent 2 weeks hunting with Chris Troskie in Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa... We finally made the time for the type of trip I've always wanted to do. We had a fantastic time, saw a wide variety of animals and harvested some very nice trophies, saw a lot of good country and enjoyed good food and comradarie.
Chris passionately enjoys hunting and and worked hard to organize and to provide the best experience for us in hunting and for the entire trip. He has an excellent game-eye and is a good hunter. We hunted and killed Burchells zebra, impala, waterbuck, nyala, blesbok, baboon, and blue wildebeest. We hunted and saw but didn't kill kudo, bushbuck, and gemsbok. We also saw but didn't hunt springbok, caracal, duiker, eland, red hartebeest, jackal, klipspringer, ostrich, reedbuck, warthog and near Cape Town, penguins, black wildebeest, bontebok and cheetahs. The number and variety of game was amazing! Even if not hunting, seeing the game was good enough (well, almost, since I am a hunter) to make the journey.
I used a .375 H&H Model 70 Winchester but anything used for deer and elk should work well as .30-06 and .308 are popular in Africa. A Savage 99 in .358 or a Winchester 71 in .348 would be ideal for the larger game seen and for the relatively short-range shooting in thick brush if I was to return with a lever action rifle to hunt in the bushveld...
The 2 lodges we stayed in were comfortable and well maintained. Sabrisa (their home in Limpopo) is nestled under trees between hills in the bushveld and has a very picturesque "Africa as I imagined it" atmosphere. We stayed in a romantic chalet a hundred feet from their home. Emaweni was also comfortable and had wonderful views as KZN is mountainous country.
The people we met were polite and understand hospitality and service. Sabina (Chris' wife) was an excellent cook and companion for my wife (when she was not hunting with me). After each day's hunt , we enjoyed a fabulous meal then good conversation and companionship around the fire-pit with Chris and Sabina.
My non-hunting wife said up until the end of our 1st day that she could see me returning to Africa to hunt again but she wouldn't need to come back (20 hour flight from Atlanta) if I did, but by the second day, was excited to talk about when we could BOTH come back so I doubt that I'll be able to return to Africa without my wife coming along too (which is fine with me)!
We also did some tourist stuff arranged by Chris and Sabina (an African cultural village, elephant rides and 4 days in Cape Town) as well as the hunting. It was a truely wonderful trip for both of us and to hunt in Africa fulfills the dream of a lifetime! That said, we will be saving for another trip to Africa in a year or two, hopefully, to hunt buffalo with Chris in Mozambique.
My only complaint about the trip is that we couldn't stay longer and hunt more game!

I had been to Africa twice already and enjoyed myself both times. I wanted to go back and when I purchased a hunt at a Safari Club International Local Chapter Event the start of my third Africa trip began. I have always had good luck buying SCI hunt's and this trip with Chris Troskie Safari's would be no different. From the time I was picked up personally by Chris and his wife Sabina to the time I left, I was treated like royalty. I even had my own chalet. Sabina, a great cook, had gourmet meals every night and even had different theme nights like Traditional African Food Night, Italian Night, Medertarainian Night, Spanish Night, German Night, etc. I looked forward to each meal but the night meal was my favorite because it was followed by campfire conversation. Chris & Sabina really know how to treat you. In addition to having a great time, the hunting was also excellent. Since I had been bowhunting to Africa twice, the list I gave Chris was harder than most. By the time a left, I had the following trophies: Eland, Mountain Reed Buck, Impala, Warthog, Baboon, Giraffe, Guinea Fowl, and Francolin Fowl. The Eland and Mountain Reed Buck trophies are truly exceptional. I truly enjoyed my time with Chris Troskie Safaris and I look forward to my next African Adventure.

When I started deer stalking in England some years ago, I could only dream as many do of actually hunting in Africa, following in the footsteps of Selous, and “Karamojo” Bell. Today, I can claim to have successfully hunted many plains game - an achievement gained through the careful guidance of Chris Troskie...I was also impressed with the steadfast determination demonstrated by Chris during my recent hunting to achieve a successful outcome to the stalk for me...A hunter also knows that really, hunting is more than just the taking of an animal. It is about anticipation, hopes, determination, patience and a sincere trust between the guide and the hunter. I am proud to simply say that I have that implicit and absolute trust in Chris. If I had the opportunity to rewind the clock and hunt again in Africa, I would do so, but only to re-live the hunting once more with Chris. As this is impossible, I can only look forward to future hunts in Africa. And it will only be with Chris Troskie Safaris.

The best thing I can say about Chris and his services is that I would be going back in 2008 but issues came up back home so it will be 2009 for sure... I lived in Africa for several years and am acquainted with hunting, safari etc... like most are not... Troskie Safari is one of the finest I've been with... The service was superb... I actually gained weight the food was so great. Chris T is a gentleman of the first order, he guides as a top safari PH should. You will enjoy your time with him... and the hunting of course is excellent...
Pat and I both had a wonderful time, thanks to you and the rest of your staff... The offer to spend a little time in Alaska is still open. If you can work it into your finances and your schedule, we could work it into our schedule...

Chris, thank you for a wonderful time. I made it home at 1430 on the 14th. I cannot begin to tell you how much fun I had. The blesbok was worth the trip by itself. Tell everybody i said hello...
